Where I let the crazy come as it may.

It’s Friday, and I’m exhausted. This shouldn’t be surprising to any of you. Exhausted has become my status quo.

So, we present, to you, a stream of consciousness.

  • I’ve started reintroducing meat to my life. Simply, I wasn’t being very careful about what I was eating, and I’m pretty sure that chicken broth, lard, and gelatin were working their way into my diet regularly between soups, pie, and red wine. And, I really, really wanted a “real Thanksgiving meal.”
  • I have just over two weeks until the marathon, and my longest run is 16 miles. I’m worried, especially since it looks like we’ll get a lot of snow and I won’t be able to sneak a long run in this weekend.
  • With that said, my pace has become faster & faster. Once I set my brain to auto-run, I’m churning out 8:45 miles, mile after mile. The marathon course is one that kicked my ass – I’m hoping to chop a full hour off of last year’s time.
  • I gave my dogs a bath last night. They did not love me for that. Although I do love the “what the heck did they do that was so bad?” look they give me every time I take the kids into the bath.
  • I refuse to believe that I ever possessed the ability to fight sleep like my son does.
  • I’ve started making homemade jalapeño poppers. My last batch were especially yummy . . . and because I baked them, I can pretend they’re “good for me.”
  • I managed to get $150 worth of free clothing from Bonobos.com, which was pretty cool. The stuff there is priced way above anything I’d ever spend on myself, but, if it’s free – hey. How I did this was:
    • Signed up for Runkeeper on my iPhone.
    • Linked by Runkeeper Account with Earndit.com.
    • Ensured that I was tracking every single time I walked my dogs or ran or cycled.
    • Almost 12 months later, I had enough credits for a $100 gift certificate and a $50 gift certificate . . . and, unlike most of the reward offers, these didn’t have a “for up to half of your order” caveat, so I ordered myself two pairs of shorts (because I wear shorts year-round, and my old shorts were, woefully, large on me) and a pink dress-shirt.
  • I’m both eager to get started and shockingly terrified of National Novel Writer’s Month. I truly think I’m a half-decent writer, but I don’t always do well when I need to write from day to day to day . . . I’m much more a “quirky anecdote” guy.
  • I’m watching Shaun of the Dead tonight – provided that I can stay awake after putting the kids to bed. If I’m still awake after that, I’ll watch Dawn of the Dead. And, if I’m still awake after that, I’ll watch Sense & Sensibility because, really, I’ll need to go to sleep.
  • My stepbrother is getting married tomorrow. Well, he’s already married, but the wedding reception is tomorrow. Of course, mother nature is thinking about dropping the better part of a foot of snow in NJ, so I have no idea what will actually happen.
  • Isn’t it lunchtime yet?

    1. I have very fond memories of Sense & Sensibility, but it was because of what happened in the theater, not from the movie . . . I just can’t get into Jane Austen, at all.

    1. The thing is, I’m so crazy lately that I’m 90% sure I’m not going to finish. But, anything that I can do to push myself to write more is a good thing in my book . . . whether I have a book at the end of it or not.

  1. I feel your exhaustion. Because it’s the way I feel minus the running.

I would love to sit and write a novel. I have been contemplating my busy-ness lately and why aren’t I doing something creative with my life. And then I remember to 5 year plan. And college for kids. And I go to work.

    1. That damn 5 year plan . . . there are times that I don’t even have a five minute plan, but yeah, the “look out for the kids” keeps me going to work, and doing stuff that makes me “responsible” & shit. All of the time.

And that makes me even more tired.

  2. I signed up for NaPlo whatever today. Cue the panic. Write about what, exactly every day. Hopefully my kids will cooperate and give me some good material. Or my brain will suddenly become amazing. Have fun at the reception!

    1. It’s sitting down to write, every day, that I need to do . . . and that’s exactly what I’m hoping NaNoWriMo gets me to do. Only time will tell if I actually do write . . . and, if I’ll be writing better at the end of the month than at the beginning.

  3. I liked the Dawn of the Dead from a few years ago w Sarah Polley and Ving Rhames. It didn’t suck.

Good luck w the marathon training. I don’t do anything more than 10ks, but the couple of weeks before those my body starts telling me how iold I am.

    1. The thing about that Dawn of the Dead was that “fast zombies” didn’t feel like they belonged in a George Romero universe.

I’m running a 10k to wind down the running season (nearly wrote “wine down,” which might have been more appropriate) on Thanksgiving . . . I’ll run when the weather & road conditions allow throughout the winter, and then I’ll be back to my normal antics in the spring (after this one, I have a marathon in May – plus a likely Tough Mudder in April)

  4. Oh and I just re-subscribed to your feed. I don’t know what the freak happened, but I should see you in my inbox again soon. (that’s what she said)

    1. Yeah, I don’t know what happened . . . but hopefully things will be more convenient for you – and hopefully things won’t blow up in the meantime.

And I’m a big fan of the Costanza nap.
