It’s not a secret to many that I’ve been working on a musical . . . while it’s still in the infancy stages, I figure if I give an intro here, well, other people will know about it, and if other people know about it, maybe I’ll be enticed to work on it. So here goes.
So, there you have it. As far as what’s next, well, it’s really not all that different than a writing assignment — I know the story arc, it’s just a matter of filling it out . . . as I do that, and the intricate details of the story make themselves known to me, I’ll start working on more & more of the lyrics to these, along with some other pieces that go along, including:
- a near revolt piece by the coffeeshop patrons when someone orders four nonfat, decaf lattes and everyone has to wait while the order is prepared, which will be reprised by the same cast later in the show when Charlotte feels that she has been wronged.
- The coffeeshop owner’s soliloquy – a stately, elderly man, well-respected in the community, who has to hide his passion of dressing in women’s clothing
Of course, there’s probably another piece or four that I’ll need to write (most notably a big closing number), in order to break out the musical, and then I’ll need to orchestrate everything, come up with incidental musical (and orchestrate that). So I have a lot of work….but I think this is a workable idea that will appeal to community theaters and high schools: large cast (with a good number of speaking roles and room for a chorus as large as a director would want to make it) and minimal set requirements.
Now that I have this out there, check back – because I do plan to post updates. When I can get around to them.
I am so jazzed you put these up!
Makes me want to convince Victoria that we should produce it together. You know, in our spare time.
I’ve actually been more drawn to getting things done here than I have been in the last couple of years . . . I’m hoping to have fun updates to share. Soon.
Yea! Keep up the good work. I can’t wait to see it!
I can’t wait to finish it! And thank you 🙂
John – you are amazing. Work, parenting, exercise, cooking…..and now a musical. I look forward to more.
I’ll cross my fingers that my sanity holds out long enough to finish here 🙂
Thanks, Barbara
