Where I play out the movie of an unwritten memoir

LATE NIGHT – A RUNDOWN OLD THEATER

The camera pans in to find a man in his mid-40’s, JOHN, dressed in a tuxedo, asleep in a chair, drooling, a concent program in his hand. The sound of an orchestra tuning fills in the background. The camera zooms in on JOHN’s face as the sound fades.

Three taps interrupt the silence.

JOHN’s eyes snap open as the opening theme of Batzer’s First Symphony plays.

NARRATOR (voiced by James Earl Jones)
Some people spend their entire lives working to acheive their goals

The camera follows JOHN running down the certer aisle of a theater as a cleaning crew enters. They wave as he passes.

The camera follows JOHN running through the streets of a small down as rain pours down and the symphony reaches a crescendo.

NARRATOR
Others, well, they just want to play

The music switches to Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way” as JOHN opens the door to a house, breathless with rainwater dripping from his suit.

Camera cuts to a group of 4 women and three men, all dressed in formal wear, sitting around a table.

Too late to buy in?

    1. I just sensed that “the best” hasn’t yet played out . . . and while there’s plenty of “me” that has “already been” and would be explored through a memoir, a movie is always best when you start with an easily-identifiable highlight. And me, falling asleep at the premiere performance of my first symphony sounds “too me” to not actually happen some day.

  1. This is going to be like Pulp Fiction but with a laughtrack?

    just kidding….

nice….if you can get Joe Walsh to be in the movie, I think it would make 100 million easily.

    I laughed, I cried, I spent $9.95. More please

    1. “Rocky Mountain Way” has, somewhere, become my chill-out song. No idea why, but it has been . . . so when I’m driving, picturing a camera over my shoulder, documenting what’s going on in my head, that’s the song the plays.

  2. Good call on James Earl Jones playing the narrator. You can never go wrong with him or Morgan Freeman. I am hoping that your character John is buying in to play poker.

    1. It’s not too late for me to hit the stage 😉

Actually, my first “great work” will likely be a musical. I’m going to get @bestoffates and @moveovermaryp to star in it – they just don’t know it yet.

  3. Hey Mr. Big Time Budget with the king of voices narrating your life story 🙂

Your details are what I loved about this, including your tuxedo wearing self drooling in your sleep.

    1. Oh, I’ll always, always value “play” over “work.” It’s much easier to “get up and go” every day with that philosophy.

    1. No – it’s probably me being vague. At some point, I’ll write a symphony . . . and I’ll find someone to play it so that I can watch the performance in the audience.

But symphonies are relatively boring, so I’ll fall asleep – and since I don’t ever sleep, anyway, my friends would leave me so I’d have to run to their place to play poker.

At least, that’s what I was trying to get across 🙂
