Where I just let the crazy come as it may

I’m a bit fried this week, so let’s just go bullet-point style:

  • I’ve written more this week than I have in a long, long time, but I haven’t actually posted any of it because none of it is anywhere near complete. I like to think this is me, trying to get more mature with my writing. But, in all actuality, it’s probably just me, making new strides with how wordy I am.
  • I think I may be a guest-post-whore. Seriously, if I get an invite from a blog I read regularly, I cannot wait to write a guest post.
  • With the previous statement, I am slightly-less-likely to read a guest post than I am to read a non-guest post. I don’t know why. This is truly unfortunate, because most of the people that I enjoy reading regularly, I found through guest posts.
  • And, speaking of guest posts, I seem unable to ever actually volunteer a guest post – if I’m asked, I’m happy, but coming forward and saying “I’ll write something for you” might be the one place where I am actually shy.
  • I just had to un-subscribe from a blog because the first line of the post confused your & you’re. I’m a grammar snob, I know.
  • When I grow up, I hope to be able to write half-as-well as some of my favorite people to read
  • The remake of Fright Night opens today – it’s penned by Marti Noxon, who wrote some of the episodes of Buffy the Vampire Hunter that I liked the best. So, we have a remake of one of the most classic cheesy 80’s horror flicks, written by one of my absolute favorite writers . . . before kids, I’d have taken a half-day at work, bought one ticket, but sat through three showings of this movie.
  • My crush on Marti Noxon is nowhere near as strong as my mancrush on Joss Whedon, though, and I may actually plan a vacation day around the release of Cabin in the Woods.
  • I ended up with a odd craving to watch Kentucky Fried Movie the other day . . . perhaps because I haven’t seen it in forever, or because I just listened to Bossypants by Tina Fey and I realize that I’m old and can no longer stay awake to watch Saturday Night Life so I have a severe lacking of sketch comedy, or maybe I just want to see Catholic Schoolgirls in Trouble.
  • While I’ve managed regular workouts, I haven’t run in quite some time. My legs feel like a drawn bowstring – I’m missing out on running a Steeplechase with a friend this weekend, but if I can find the time on Saturday, I may run a half-marathon.
  • I’ve been thinking about my next tattoo, a lot, lately. I’m well passed the “wait 6 months” on the tattoo idea, so it’s a “go.” If only good tattoos were free and didn’t take a whole lot of time to have inked.
  • I need a job where I can drink wine and not wear pants.
  • My tan lines from RAGBRAI are still quite legendary. And they freak me out when I’m not wearing pants.
  • I had the strangest zombie-porn dream the other night . . . I’m at a complete loss to figure out what the dream actually meant. I was actually watching the whole thing as if it was a movie, where a man & a woman (who were they? I couldn’t tell you) and they heard of a zombie infestation. After running around and around and around and around, with lots of close calls, they came upon a forest. Suddenly, they ran across an abandoned Revolutionary War fort and went inside. After a few hours without zombies, they started doing what two survivors of the zombie apocalypse might do – loudly. The sounds drew the zombies – I woke up just as I watched the zombies breaking down a door.
  • As we get closer to the school year, I get closer to having to take up my regular gig as organist. I’m somewhat shocked at myself that I haven’t thought up anything new for #InappropriateChurchTweet theater.

    1. I’m not entirely sure if these were Rule 34 zombies – I woke up just as things got really interesting. But, google Porn of the Dead for those such zombies.

  1. I love bullet point posts. Maybe better than written posts. Perhaps I should begin a rule where I only read posts with bullets.

    1. You know, they’re both easier to read & write than the traditional blog post . . . but the payoff for a well-done, proper blog post is higher . . . and, like a junkie, that’s what I aim for.

    1. I’ve been told by many that I need to write the zombie porn dream out . . . I don’t know if I could out-do “Porn of the Dead,” but it might be fun to try 😉

  2. Bullet point response:
    * I don’t care for Buffy and the like, but I love Joss Whedon for Firefly and Serenity. Love.
*A Fistful of Yen was the most brilliant part of KFM
*Tina Fey is hot, funny, and smart. She’s on my list right below Sandra Bullock
*I wish I could run without my knees exploding. Seriously, my bursa may as well be filled with nitroglycerine.
*Tattoos are cool. Futurama is way cool. Ergo: http://bit.ly/oGsl3K
*Wearing pants is overrated. Men should wear kilts.
*Tan lines are sexy, big boy…
    *Zombie porn is not.
*An organist? I have no response to that.

    1. * Buffy took me just a little while to get into – I did enjoy Firefly & Serenity more (though I watched those in the wrong order) – but Dr. Horrible, so far, may be my all-time favorite Whedon work.
      * See, now I really need to re-watch KFM, just because I had completely forgotten about Fistful of Yen (for whatever reason, I thought it was part of Amazon Women on the Moon)
      * Tina Fey is above Sandra Bullock, but behind Zooey Deschanel, on my list.
      * Those are some damn cool tattoos, though I never got into Futurama. I think I might have been spending too much time comparing it to The Simpsons in my head to allow an appreciation
      * I’m not so sure these tan lines are sexy – they’re two inches above my knees
      * Point noted on the zombie porn

  3. I’m totally laughing over here. A job that requires no pants. Excellent. And requires you to drink. Even better. I love how you think. AND you’re willing to whore yourself out?? Is that an invite? Becuase I’m totally asking. For a guest post. 😉 Any time, name it.

    1. You’ll have a guest post soon enough….I’ll try to get it to you early next week 😉

And you better believe that no pants & drinking would be my definition of a perfect job . . . if only there were money to be made in male-review strip clubs.

  4. I’m totally drinking wine and not wearing pants right now.

Not really, but that would be awesome.

(love stream of consciousness. nothing wrong there. or their. or they’re. ;-))

  5. Being a grammar snob is harsh. People mess up. Even when they know the difference.
Also, it’s a bummer you unsubscribed.

Also, I’m totally down for getting tattoo. I have it all picked out. Let’s go!

And if you wanna write a guest post for me when I am in Israel, your-I mean you’re invited.

    1. I’m ok with the a random grammar slip-up, but this was the first line of the blog post (and everybody makes sure their first line is, at least, readable), and, while I hate to say it, I’ve been considering un-following this blogger for a little while. As I’ve gotten to know her, I’m realizing that we’re far less compatible than I originally thought. I don’t ever mind reading conflicting viewpoints than that of my own . . . but when I read them, I like them to be well-written.

What tattoo do you have planned? When will you get it inked?

And, lastly, when are you in Israel? Of course, I’ll cover a spot for you.

  6. I did end up watching Fright Night last night. Loved it! I’m sure I’ll get around to The Help in no time, but this was a no-contest situation.

I’m heartened to see this approach to posting. I have one pre-written entry, one largely pre-written entry and another ten FTIAT guest posts scheduled. Not totally thrilled about any of it, but I figure sometimes we’re gonna be friend and we’ve just gotta do what we can to capture how that, too, is part of the experience.

This is all to say that I will be utilizing bullet points in the very near future!

    1. Yeah, I have a bunch of posts in some state of completion . . . but these, well, since I don’t need to ever worry about transitions, and I can end them wherever, they can just “come about,” and that makes them near & dear to my heart. And, knowing that people actually like reading them . . . well, it makes me want to write them more 🙂

Oh, and I have a guest post that I hope to have to you tomorrow.

  7. Hello. I’m visiting your blog from the guest post at “In These Small Moments.” I enjoyed your post. After reading your bullets, I realized I’m the opposite. I won’t guest post on another blog, because I worry about not measuring up to what another blogger wants…. but I love to read guest posts, because it introduces me to new bloggers 🙂

Now, I have to reread my comment and check the usage of “your” and “you’re” before clicking “post comment” – I’m not a grammar snob, so if you happen across my blog, just close your eyes. 😉

    1. I love new readers 🙂

And, don’t worry too much about the “your/you’re” comment . . . I was in a mood, but the real-reason for the unfollow was more to do with the content/politics than the grammatical error. 🙂

As far as guest posting – I can tell you, in no uncertain terms, that I love every guest post I get simply because it’s a new voice. I’m not looking for something specific – I’m just looking for someone new to write at my place, and to give that same someone a venue to reach a new audience.

  8. You clearly have the coolest dreams of anyone I know. And I absolutely hate hearing about peoples’ dreams, so you had quite a high bar to jump right away. Kudos.

p.s. I have an overwhelming fear that I’ve made a grammar mistake, causing you to abandon me. That’s mainly from a massive amount of narcissism that assumes every comment people make refers to me. That’s normal, right?

    1. Of course your fear is normal . . . but, as I’ve told you before, you’re not getting rid of me from that blog of yours. You’re far too cute & hilarious to not stalk read regularly.

As far as the “cool” dreams, this one at least made sense. I’m used to stuff like people trying to pelt me with quarters while I wade through a river made of cheese. I wake up from those sore & hungry.

  9. I am a grammar snob too – so if you see me make an error – forgive me because i was likely sleeping.

I am also deciding on my next tattoo — i get something every year & have to come up with this years 🙂

    & your dream … haha
